| | Following the link you will find this year's ERFP Call for Action. As it was decided in Barcelona, it is an Open Call. However, the submitted proposals should be reflective of the priority areas of the GPA and aim to initiate or re-enforce ongoing collaborative activities in the field of AnGR among groupings of National Co-ordinators in Europe aiming to enhance the impact of their work and to improve existing or introduce new tools for the management and conservation of AnGR.
The deadline for proposals submission is the 25th of February! |

| | The ERFP received 4 project proposals for the Call for Action and one from Georgia that was evaluated separated, as according to the decisions of the Dublin Workshop. From the 4 proposals submitted, the 3 project proposals with the higher evaluation were selected for funding for a total amount of 50,000 Euros. |

| | The Secretariat of ERFP presents the 1st edition of the "ERFP Newsletter" for 2007.
The aim is to keep the National Coordinators updated on activities and forthcoming events. It is also a forum for discussions and a means to strengthen the connections between the Steering Committee, the Secretariat and the NCs, as agreed in the Strategic Plan in Antalya 2006. |

| | National Coordinators play an important (co-ordinating) role in the development of policies and strategies for conservation and sustainable use of AnGR in their country. They are counterpart to scientist and policy makers and require (technical) knowledge about principles, methods and strategies relevant for the genetic management and sustainable use/breeding of AnGR.
ERFP hopes to provide an interesting opportunity for NCs to refresh knowledge and to discuss case studies and some specific issues such as 'degree of endangerment', 'transboundary breeds', etc.during this training workshop which is sponsored under the 2007 ERFP Call for Action and therefore free of charge. |

| | The 11th Workshop of the National Coordinators for Animal Genetic Resources in Uppsala agreed to launch a further call for proposals for projects which will be financially supported by the European Regional Focal Point for AnGR.
Priority will be given this year to proposals which specifically initiate or re-enforce ongoing collaborative activities in the field of AnGR among groupings of National Co-ordinators in Europe to enhance the impact of their work or which strengthen the co-ordination role of the Regional Secretariat for the benefit of the ERFP as a whole. Priority will also be given to projects which enable the preparation of proposals under EU Council Regulation (EC) No 870/2004 on the conservation, characterisation, collection and utilisation of genetic resources in agriculture although the co-financing of such projects by the ERFP is not precluded.

| [25/01/2006] Greece to host ERFP Secretariat 2006-2010 |

| | During the last ERFP Steering Committee in Brussels, the election of the next ERFP Secretariat was concluded. Greece became 2/3 of the vote of the National Coordinators. The new ERFP-Secretariat for 2006-2010 will therefor be hosted by Greece.

| | RÈGLEMENT (CE) N° 870/2004 DU CONSEIL du 24 avril 2004 établissant un programme communautaire concernant la conservation, la caractérisation, la collecte et l'utilisation des ressources génétiques en agriculture.
Conformément à l'article 9.5 de ce règlement, la Commission doit constituer un groupe d'experts indépendants en vue de procéder à la sélection des propositions d'actions à financer.
La Commission sélectionnera ce panel d'experts au sein d'une base de données constituée par la DG Recherche sur base de l'appel 2002/C 300 A/01.
Toute personne estimant avoir un profil qui lui permette de mener à bien cette tâche et respectant les conditions d'indépendance vis-à-vis de tout projet soumis dans le cadre de ce programme communautaire est invitée à enregistrer ses coordonnées dans cette base de données. | | The Government of Switzerland has kindly offered to host the First International Technical Conference on Animal Genetic Resources, in September 2007 in Interlaken.
The Conference will provide the opportunity to reach agreement on how best to address priorities for the sustainable use, development and conservation of animal genetic resources, and to raise awareness and appreciation of the various stakeholders and policy makers vis-à-vis the significance of such genetic resources. |

| [13/04/2005] Proposal of a Council Regulation on Support for Rural Development by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) |

| | The EAFRD regulation will regulate the EU-funded development of Rural Areas in the period of 2007 - 2013. The new draft of this regulation outlines the following improvements regarding measures on conservation and sustainable utilisation of genetic resources:
- Following the current regulation 1257/1999, the conservation of genetic resources will officially become part of the funding mechanism.
- This is determined by the inclusion of a new paragraph 5 into article 37 of the new draft having the following wording:
"Support may be provided for the conservation of genetic resources in agriculture for operations not covered under paragraphs 1 to 4"
- The next consultation steps towards an adoption of the EAFRD regulation will be:
- 18 April 2005: Standing Committee on Agriculture. Continued negotiations on different high priority issues.
- 26 April 2005: Agriculture Council.
- Until end of June 2005: Conclusion of legislative procedures under Luxembourg's Presidency. Pre-requisite is an agreement on the next EU financial perspective 2007-2013.
